Southend Airport

A small station for a small, friendly airport. Watching the aircraft is the draw here, so pair it with Rochford, one stop up the line, for a full day.

Aircraft watching at the Holiday Inn

There is no official viewing area, but the hotel beside the terminal has a top-floor bar and restaurant that looks straight over the runway and welcomes non-residents. Order a coffee or lunch and watch the departures.

Hotel bar hours. Buying a drink is expected.

Walk on to Rochford

Rochford's market square is about 2.5 km north. Walk it, or hop on the train for one stop and carry on with the Rochford page.

Open at all times.

Church40 min walk · longer

St Laurence and All Saints, Eastwood

A Grade I listed Norman church that now sits at the very end of the airport runway, built of ragstone with Roman and Tudor brick worked in. A long walk round the airport, but a remarkable sight.

Usually open for services. Check before visiting inside.
