Before you set off
- Check times on the day
- Museums, the windmill and the pier museum keep short or seasonal hours, and several are run by volunteers. The status on each card is worked out from the times listed here, so a quick look at the official site is still wise.
- Make it a picnic
- Priory Park, Hockley Woods, Lake Meadows and Norsey Wood are all lovely places to spread a blanket. Most town centres have a good bakery near the station.
- Plan around the week
- Most museums close on Mondays and Tuesdays. Rochford's market is on Tuesday mornings. Rayleigh Windmill opens on Wednesdays and weekends from April to September.
- Pair the short stops
- Southend Airport and Rochford are three minutes apart by train and make a good day together. So do Prittlewell and Southend Victoria.
